DESIGN SERVICE FEES FOR A SINGLE-FAMILY HOME
The first meeting to discuss the scope of your project and design requirements is free. I’ll then prepare a fixed fee proposal for your review. While the design process is the same for each project, your unique needs will dictate the specific Scope of Work outlined in my proposal. I will provide a detailed list of the services that will be provided, along with the corresponding fees. I do my best to include everything in that fee right from the start so that you can work the number into your overall construction budget. The only areas billed at an hourly rate are meetings past a specified number and site visits during construction. There is really no way to predict how many times you will need my input on site and this avoids my over or undercharging you. Any expenses I incur, such as printing drawings, are passed on at cost plus a 10% administration fee.
Because each project is different, my design fee will vary accordingly. However, I know that most of my potential Clients haven’t hired a designer before and may have no idea what kind of cost they’re looking at. Below are some average fee numbers based on a typical Scope of Work. Normally, the fee with the greatest variation is for drawings, depending on how many kitchens and bathrooms you have and whether you require details for additional cabinetry or built-in millwork such as a butler’s pantry or wet bar.
